First day of Spring!

I am so excited that Spring is finally here. Of course that means it was free cone day at DQ... But hey at least I still managed to get in my mile of riding today. Had a busy evening since I am a Girl Scout troop leader and we had a meeting tonight, but did my ride before we left for Scouts.

Took a new path today

My son wanted to try a different route so we turned left out the driveway instead of right today and there were far more hills in that direction. I've mostly been doing two straight paths on flat surface with maybe a slight but hardly noticeable incline. Not today though. This time it was one straight shot down and back but some decent sized inclines. He enjoyed just coasting down them but I made sure to pedal my feet even on the downhill parts. My heart was definitely racing by the time it was all said and done.

My first NSV of 2019

So the app I use to track my workouts has the option to pause. Today was the first day since I started doing a mile a day on my bike that I didn't have to hit pause for one reason or another.

My 10 year old went with me again today. He opted out of doing Soccer this season so I think it will be a good thing for him to ride his bike a little each day, too. This is the first season since he was 4 that he hasn't had some sort of sport to do. I want to keep my kids physically active. They are both in scouts and do plenty there but it's just not quite the same thing. I was never allowed to sign up for sports outside of school as a child and always wished I had.

All good things must come to an end

Well Spring break is officially over...

I started a new job in August of 2018 working for a local public school district and so now I have the pleasure of being on break when my kids are. It's been absolutely wonderful! One of my longest dreams finally came true for new years this year. My husband and I celebrated New Years Eve in New York city. Not really sure why but I've always longed to do that and he came in to a lot of money all at once last fall and decided before it all gets spent on things we need that we should put down some for something we've just always wanted to do and he knew it was my dream to go to New York. So we finally did it! Of course we were totally broke again by the time we made it home, but hey you only live once and we've lost too many friends and family members in the last year to be holding on to dreams you'll never see to fruition. A very close family friend who was like a father to me passed away from a freak accident and he had been saving his whole life to go on a big trip with just him and his wife but he never got to so it really got us thinking. Anyways... that is what I did with my winter break.

For Spring break I did a lot of spring cleaning and prepping for things to come. I wish I had a little more time to get everything finished but oh well. Before I know it, it will be summer break and omg I don't even know what I will do with all that free time but I am hoping a lot of it gets spent working towards a healthier and happier me!

Both of my children joined me on my bike ride today and my 6 year old was so whiney... lol. She just hasn't gotten the hang of riding a bike yet and is still relying on training wheels. I think we may have to go cold turkey off of them to get her to finally just learn how to do it.

Here comes the sun

The weather here has been gorgeous lately and the forecast for the next week looks even better. Took my son for a bicycle ride yesterday just for the heck of it and managed to get in exactly one mile just by chance. I decided that is as good a start as anywhere and got myself in another mile today. I'm going to commit myself now to doing a minimum of 1 mile on my bike each day and see where I can go from there. I mean, I ate cheesecake for breakfast today, but I also took a few baby steps towards a healthier goal for my life. Work in progress...

I probably won't have the same results I did at 25 now that I am 33, but I'm tired of giving myself excuses. The food has always been the hardest part, but I think I started working out first last time and that is what motivated me to stop with the excessive portions and the things that just weren't as healthy for me. I actually enjoy doing all the things, its just that back then I was unemployed and only had one kid who was a toddler I could just push along with me or pull in the bike carrier or put in my backpack, etc. There are a lot more things pulling against me these days, but I think if I just focus on one thing at a time I will slowly but surely make it to where I need to be. It probably won't happen in a year, but I have so many years ahead of me right now so what the hell am I waiting for, right?
